The first of our weighted jackets! A bit more stylish than a regular weighted vest.

A weighted jacket is normally worn over clothing with extra weight added within the jacket. Traditionally weighing between 5% to 10% of a person’s body weight, weighted jackets provide proprioceptive input using deep pressure which sends signals to the brain which, as a result, helps a person feel calm and increase focus.

Although it might not apply to everyone with autism, a weighted jacket is said to provide the following benefits:

• Create calmness

• Increase focus and concentration

• Decrease stimming

• Reduce anxiety

• Provide better body awareness

• Encourage self-regulation

Manufactured with a denim outer shell and a soft fleece inner lining or Denim on both sides.

Due to the absence of scientific evidence that weighted jackets work, it’s important to observe someone with autism while wearing one – especially if they have limited communication skills. If uncomfortable or no improvement is seen, then it’s best not to use it. It is also worth mentioning that wearing a weighted jacket may not work unless it is supported by other methods provided by an occupational therapist.
